It's looking back...

Radiohead, Molson Amphitheatre, Toronto, Ontario @ 10:53 pm

the voice inside my head: O-o-olympic Games

So, at this point my summer is over. At least the portion of it that involved traveling to see bands. I'm not in any way complaining, I've had a great summer, and part of me is happy to be at home for, well, after one more non music-related trip this weekend, a good while. And I think it behooves me to post at least a little about these great trips I've been having. In all honesty, it behooves me to be posting, period.

I caught a 2:45 express bus from Rochester that was supposed to arrive in Toronto at 6:45. I opted for this over a train leaving a little earlier that wasn't supposed to get in until 7:45. I didn't think that that left enough time to check into the hotel and then get to the show, so even though I'm not a big fan of the bus, I took that route. The bus left Rochester a little bit late, left Buffalo much later and after an unscheduled stop in Mississaugua, arrived in Toronto an HOUR AND A HALF late. So, after I made it to the hotel and caught a cab to Molson Amphitheatre, I had missed the first 3 songs. So that wasn't great, but it could have been worse. For one thing, all 3 songs I had missed I heard the weekend before at All Points West. If there had been a song I'd never heard, I would have hated it. After that it was on Radiohead to make up for it, and...wow. I've been to 4 Radiohead shows now, and they're totally different experiences than Pearl Jam shows, but it's just as awesome. This was a bigger pit than I remember from West Palm in 2003, and getting there so late I just found a spot along the back rail, but I could see great, with perhaps a better view of Jonny (except when he went to the keyboard at the back of the stage.) The show? Well, I could say that it was made as soon as I heard Like Spinning Plates for the first time. There's a lot of truth in that, but it really was strong show all around. My 3rd Pyramid Song this year, they played In Rainbows songs very strongly, Jonny spoke(?!), and Street Spirit makes any show better. The full setlist from At Ease:

The next day I had until my bus left at 8PM, so I spent a bit of time walking about the city. I had intended to get up the CN Tower, but the hotel's CC authorization left me juust short of the cash needed to get in (if I had remembered the toonie I have from the night before, I would have been fine!) and I was reasonably certain that the Hockey HoF is more spendy than that. Next time, for sure. In any case I walked along the waterfront as far as Ontario Place (retracing my walk back to the hotel from the night before) and in and around downtown, a bit along the Discovery Walk, and passing right by Dundas Sq (giving horrendously poor directions at one point along the way) and the UofT. All in all, it was rather pleasant, and I should try to get back to TO without the excuse of  a show.

Going to try to track back to APW, and my pictures from said festival will be coming to my flickr, starting tonight.

You need to see Pearl Jam too! :P

But yeah, I'm very happy that I've been able to see both bands this year. :)
