One hectic weekend @ 06:32 pm

the voice inside my head: The New Pornographers - Mass Romantic

It's funny, I just got Star Ocean : Till the End of Time used last week and, while I thought I had lost the capacity to get geeked on playing games, this one game brought it all back. Playing SO even fought the LOST finale to a draw! And then this weekend I spent almost no time at home. Truly, this weekend was a Local Sports Weekend. On Friday, I got out of work early, which was a good thing specifically because it gave me the afternoon to play, before my brother picked me up at quarter to 6 to see the Red Wings. These were discount tickets bought through my nephew Dylan's baseball team, and before the game he got the chance to parade on the field. In addition to that, it was Cowbell Night, (everybody got one, and there was much Walken coming from the PA. A Red Wing homered in the first inning, and they had a 3-0 lead after the first two. They ended up losing 6-3, but still. The fireweorks were nice, and it was a fun night with the family.

On Saturday I woke up earl...ier than I usually do to meet my dad to get haircuts and then have lunch at the Highland Park Diner. I got back from that at about 2:30, so got a little play time in before I left for the Rattlers' (outdoor lacrosse) home opener at 5. The opponents were last season's MLL champs, the Philadelphia Barrage, so it was even more satisfying to see the Rattlers trounce them 22-9. Philly's goalkeeper, Brian Dougherty, is probably the league's best character, so it was fun to see him jaw with the fans a while. Not that he had too much that he could really say, but that certainly didn't stop him from talking.

Sunday morning I was up at 8:30, because my brother had said he'd call me by 9, on the way to picking up at 9:30, to go to Darien Lake. Typically, he didn't call until nearly 10, but we got on the road pretty fast. Of course, we ended up finding our parents (where the whole plan was to leave earlier than we would if we had had to wait for them,) in the parking lot. Everybody had one way or the other gotten season passes for Christmas or something like that, so we had figured that this would be a good time to start using them. It wasn't that warm (clearly too cold for the waterpark) but that worked to our advantage in the way of shorter wait times. We tried the new Moto-Coaster, and actually got both my niece and nephew on the ride. Twice! The goal is to get them both to try Ride of Steel before the end of the summer, but that musn't be rushed. We got to most of the coasters, and plenty of the other rides, by 5, which was about when we left to head back to Rochester for the Rhinos' second home game. And for effort we were rewarded with a 2-1 victory, where the Rhinos took the lead early, conceded a fairly late equalizer, but turned it around to see Johnny Menyongar grab the winner off a sumptuous back-heel by Matthew Delicate. And, huzzah, the Rhinos are out of the basement of the USL! Lets hope they can follow this up with more wins. All in all, a great weekend, if a little short on sleep. Lets see if I can catch it up over the week.
